The Coordinating Body on the Seas of East Asia (COBSEA) is responsible for the implementation of the New Strategic Direction of COBSEA (2008-2012).
The New Strategic Direction of COBSEA (2008-2012) was adopted by the 19th Meeting of COBSEA in Siem Reap, Cambodia, 22-23 January 2008.
COBSEA's current activities aim to implement the New Strategic Direction of COBSEA (2008-2012) and to:
- Strengthen information management through the development of a COBSEA Coordinating Centre (CCC);
- Support national capacities in strengthening the implenentation of relevant Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) and other international agreements and obligations;
- Assist member countries in addressing strategic and emerging issues of priority to the region; and
- To strengthen regional cooperation through the establishment of formal and informal partnerships in order to minimize duplication of efforts adn to support COBSEA initiatives.
Apart from the activities undertaken at national level by the COBSEA member countries, several regional activities have been initiated by the COBSEA Secretariat.
